The 5th Meeting of China-CEEC Higher Education Institutions Consortium Held in Shenzhen

On May 29th, the 5th meeting of China-ECCE Higher Education Institutions Consortium was held in Shenzhen University. Deputy Minister of Education Hon. Mr. Tian Xuejun, Deputy Mayor of Shenzhen Mr. Gao Zimin, and Presidents from 24 higher education institutions in Central and Eastern European countries and of more than 110 higher education institutions in China attended the meeting.

 

Minister Tian Xuejun addressed the meeting that cooperation between China-ECCE higher education institutions is fundamental for China’s international cooperation in higher education. Cooperation at all levels and of all kinds has strongly developed disciplines and talents in higher education institutions and enhanced the contribution for their countries in social and economical development. Minister Tian encouraged Chinese universities to carry out more substantive cooperation with higher education and academic institutions in Central and Eastern European countries, and continuously promote internationalization in higher education.

 

The China-ECCE Higher Education Institutions Consortium was established in 2014. The theme of the 5th meeting of the Consortium was “Strengthening China-CEEC Educational Cooperation • Cultivating Innovative Talents”. Representatives of Central and Eastern European education authorities, Hanban (Confucius Institute Headquarters), China Scholarship Council, and China Education Association for International Exchange Association shared experiences in promoting cooperation in education between China and Central and Eastern European countries. During the meeting, China Education Association for International Exchange Association launched the website of the China-ECCE Higher Education Institutions Consortium Exchange Platform. Shenzhen University, University of Novi Sad and other member higher education institutions signed a series of cooperation memorandums and announced the commencement of a number of practical cooperation projects.

 

Liu Hongyi, Secretary of the CPC Party Committee of Shenzhen University, indicated that Shenzhen University had become a member of the China-ECCE Higher Education Institutions Consortium and had signed strategic cooperation agreements with 13 higher education institutions in Central and Eastern Europe in 2017. In the future, Shenzhen University plans to establish an exchange network platform for the China-ECCE Higher Education Institutions Consortium to enhance the publicity and promotion of cooperative projects. Shenzhen University also plans to jointly build a “Belt and Road” library and share with the Consortium members. Also, Shenzhen University Summer Course Program for Central and Eastern European students will be commenced; it will provide financial support for the students from the Consortium’s member institutions. Shenzhen University ECCE Doctoral Program will provide scholarships for doctoral students from Central and Eastern Europe.
